Leadership Frameworks

Three leadership frameworks underpin Aspire to Lead leadership learning and development, and form the focus for efforts in coaching, mentoring and facilitation.  

1. The Kiwi Leadership for Principals Educational Leadership Model that takes into account school context and with relationships at it's core, incorporates:

  • Leadership qualities: Awhinatanga (Guidance & Support), Pono (Self Belief), Manakitanga (Moral Purpose) and Ako (Being a Learner)
  •  Areas of Practice: Culture, Pedagogy, Systems, Partnerships & Networks
  • Activities: Problem Solving & Leading Change

2. Zenger Folkman

Context: A leadership competency model that distinguishes the most effective leaders and that can form a framework for developmental discussions focused on growing the capability needed for current and future performance.

  •  Focus on Results
  • Interpersonal Skills
  • Leading Change  

Leadership Tent:

Leadership behaviours form five clusters
Strength in a cluster becomes a pole
Effective leaders possess skills in each are
Correlations exist between key competencies


3. L5

Context: Leadership can be applied in any context and at any level. Values are embedded into the propositions. Leadership can be learned and people have personal qualities that will make their leadership more or less influential. There is a natural progression in leadership development and learning, beginning with the self and moving out to others. Leadership can be and needs to be sustainable individually and organisation wide.
