Strategic Planning - 5 Step Development Process
Strategic planning is the process of developing the specific plans to implement the strategy. Situation analysis, the formation of goals and objectives, strategies, action programmes, budgets and control, all form a package that ensure educational institutions greatly benefit.
1.Analyse present and future environment: The Environmental Scan
2.Review its resources
3.Establish vision, strategic goals and objectives
· What are you trying to create? (what is our core business?)
· Who are you creating future for?
· What will our purpose be? (What is the value to the school community?)
· How will you organize your work?
· What process will discipline your efforts?
· What is critical for success?
· What assets do you need to reach your goals?
· Where do we want to be? (Where are we now and key issues to address?)
The key considerations that enable your plan to reflect the answers are:
A. CORE VALUES
B. VISION/MISSION STATEMENT
C. STRATEGIC GOALS(Max 5-7)
D. OBJECTIVES
Factors: time, quantitative, relevant (link to critical success factors & goals), accountable (resources, time, key personnel), achievable (can we afford it? is it a priority?) e.g. end of 2012, 5 computers per 10 students.
4.Select the most cost-effective strategy for reaching the organisational goals and objectives. How are we going to get there?
A. Strategies implemented
B. Objectives achieved
C. Performance indicators achieved (incorporating annual plan elements)
D: Financial budgets achieved
